Chapter 12
Jane sat on the same sofa as Addy and they stared at a dark TV screen. Jane had turned it off as the news about Mrs. Dennis's death was all the news station wanted to talk about. The reporters interviewed women who had been at the spa and all of them had the same thing to say. In their words, "The hairstylist needs to be looked into properly."
Another woman claimed to have heard Mrs. Dennis crying in the sauna. A news station had put up Addy's face in a small square on the top right of the screen.
Jane had turned it off.
"Put it back on," Addy whispered.
"Is this what you watch all day? They shouldn't be doing that. I need to talk to the chief. They can't let those stations put your face on here. No one has established you as a suspect! Addy, is this what you watch every day?" Jane asked.
Addy looked away in guilt. "I just wanted to know if there was any progress. You shouldn't call the chief," Addy said.
Jane held her hand. "Trust me, Addy."
"I do!" Addy cried. "I do trust you but I can't help it. Plus, you've not really told me anything about what you've found out. I may not understand it but it helps. Jane, I'm scared to walk around the town as I used to. It feels like everyone in town is staring at me. It's like they are saying stuff about me."
"I know, Addy. If only you'd accept that it doesn't matter until the police say you did it. If they don't say so, you have to hold your head high. I saw Bruce when I went to meet the girl who was supposed to be at the sauna station," Jane said.
"You met the girl who was at the sauna station? Wait... Did you meet Bruce? What did he say?" Addy asked.
"I met Bruce as he was going to investigate and interrogate the same girl. Well, I felt sorry for her and him more because I was sure she wasn't going to give him any answers. I needed to know what the police knew. Bruce told me they were at a dead end. He told me that they found out that Mrs. Dennis and Madam Kerr were colleagues . They worked together once in another city," Jane said.
Addy stared with a blank expression. "I don't get it. How does that help this case?"
"It does! It's amazing and there's someone to rope into the suspect list and check them out. I never thought about Madam Kerr. I went for the reopening. Something wasn't right in her tone. It was like she was being forced to say what she had to say. That was what I thought but I didn't think anything of it. Then what the girl, Anna said too..."
"What did she say?"
"They fired her the next day, did you know that? She was fired by the manager whom I was starting to set as a suspect but he has an alibi in the receptionist, Lena.
